Privacy Policy

Who we are

Our website domain is gwasdiversitymonitor.com. We are based at the Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Visitors

We use a self-hosted instance of GoatCounter to collect aggregate site-usage statistics. GoatCounter does not use cookies, local storage, or persistent tracking identifiers, and the analytics data is not sent to Google or to GoatCounter's hosted service.

Embedded content from other websites

Our site currently has no embedded content so other sites should not be able to track your visit here.

GWAS Catalog Data

We collect aggregate, anonymous counts of genotyped participants from the EMBL-EBI GWAS Catalog. We receive only counts of participants per study and we do not process or store any individual user genetic data. All visualisations, code and underlying data generated as part of the project is shared freely for academic, research and informational purposes (subject to the EMBL-EBI Terms of Use).

How long we retain your data

GoatCounter stores aggregate usage statistics rather than identifiable visitor profiles. We retain those aggregate statistics so that we can understand the long-term reach and impact of the project.

Who we share your data with

We use aggregate usage statistics for reporting back to our funders. We do not share visitor-level analytics data with third-party advertising or analytics providers.

Where we send your data

Analytics are processed by GoatCounter on the same AWS infrastructure that hosts this website. They are not sent to Google or to the GoatCounter.com service.

What rights you have over your data

GoatCounter's aggregate records cannot be linked back to an individual visitor. If we hold other personal data about you, you can request a copy or ask us to erase it, subject to any information that we are obliged to retain for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Our contact information

Please contact us directly on contact [AT] gwasdiversitymonitor.com if you have any questions, concerns or data enquires.

Website analytics

GoatCounter records page paths, page titles, referrers, approximate country, language, screen size, and general browser and operating-system information as separate aggregate counts. It does not store IP addresses or full user-agent strings. To avoid counting repeated visits, it temporarily keeps a site, IP-address, and user-agent combination in memory for up to eight hours; that combination is not written to the analytics database. Individual pageview storage remains disabled.

No analytics cookies are set on the public website, so there is no analytics cookie-consent banner. Administrators who sign in to the private GoatCounter dashboard receive a login cookie on the separate analytics subdomain.
